Organizing Is About Systems, Not About Space

People often tell me that if they only had more space they could be organized. Organizing is about systems, not about space.

Yesterday I worked in an office that was about the size of a closet. When I
walked in, at 9:00, the desk was covered with papers. By 12:00, we had created a paper-flow system and the desktop was clear, except for an
"action file".

In the process, I helped him think through what was important to keep,
where it should be kept, and rentention guidelines.

When I asked him how it felt to have a clear desk he said " It is a great relief.".

Clear the Clutter and Donate to Cradles to Crayons Collection 2/12/09 - 4/12/09

Are the clothes that your children have outgrown, toys they no longer play with, and baby equipment, they used ages ago, taking up valuable space in your closets, attic, basement, or garage? Clear the clutter and donate them to a worthy cause.

One of my clients, who is a member of the Christian Education Working Group, of the First Baptist Church, in Beverly, MA is working on an outreach project to help eleviate suffering, especially for children.

They are launching a drive for clothes, toys, books, and equipment for children in need between the ages of 0-16 to be distributed by Cradles to Crayons in Quincy, MA.

They hope to fill several portable playpens (often known as Pack’N’Plays) with donations, from February 25 to April 12. If you have a new or used port-a-crib that you no longer need, consider contributing it before February 25.

For more details visit the First Baptist Church website at:www.fbcbeverly.org

What mode of communication do you prefer?

Most people complain that they get too many emails, some have piles of snail mail , and others are annoyed by phone calls.

I am curious to know what you prefer.

Please comment.

After I review the responses, I will post the results.

Organizing Product Research

I am working on organizing product research for two of my clients this week.

One client is an attorney in a major law firm. He was so happy when I found just what he was looking for.

The other is the CEO of a comany , who has a home based office. We are re-organizing a number of areas in her home, as well as her office. We

are communicating via email until I find organizing products to suit specific needs.

Walking MyTalk

Like many of my clients, there are times when I feel like there is too much to do and too little time to do it in. However, I am committed to scheduling time to do the things that are most important to me.

Many people tell me that they cannot take a vacation because they cannot leave their business for a week, to which I reply, "If G-d forbid you were hospitalized for a week, your business would survive." No one ever said "I wish I had spent more time in my business."

Over the holidays I spent a wonderful week on a Caribbean cruise with my husband, three married children, their spouses, and our eight grandchildren.

Our grandchildren range in age from 9-18. Our oldest granddaughter is graduating from high school this year so we knew that this would probably be the last year that they all had the same school vacation.

It was all about building family memories. We all thoroughly enjoyed it.

It was a pleasure top see the adults free of the pressure of work, responsibilities at home, and for the kids to have the freedom of no pressure from coaches, etc.

I am so happy that I walked my talk.

P.S.My email was on auto response, my phone message went to voice mail, and I responded to them after my vacation. My business was still healthy and I came back with my batteries re-charged. Enjoy yourself, life is not a dress rehearsal.
